 Using awakening to generate a lightmap

I've imported a 3ds file, created a few point lights and generated a map. I've then exported the 3ds with the lightmaps but have no idea how to assign them in 3dsmax, there are no multi/sub materials, I don't know which channel the lightmaps are on, I can't see the unwrappers etc...

How do I see the results of lightmapping after exporting a 3ds into 3dsmax?

The .3DS format does not support multi-layer textures, you need export decal texture and lightmap respectively.
